Don't Give Up

Don't Give Up

Players are getting down on themselves, losing confidence, and are telling me that they want to quit! Now I know this feeling of wanting to quit because I felt the same way when I was 13, and I wrote a blog post on my feelings and experiences. I don’t believe you guys should quit, because soccer has brought me joy and has taught me a lot about myself. With that being said, let me give you my three tips to help you get through the feeling of wanting to quit.

1. Take A Deep Breath

Deep Breath

When we feel overwhelmed and low, it is easy not to think clearly and make rash decisions. Making rash decisions is what you want to avoid because it will have you in a whirlwind and not playing your game at a high level. This snowballs and things feel like they’re going to get worse before they get better. When you’re feeling like this, remind yourself to breathe. Slow down your mind and take deep breaths. This will allow you to take a moment and realize that it isn’t dire and there is plenty of resources available to get through this moment because that is all it is one moment. Your life will consist of millions of moment, don’t let this one define your life and everything you aspire to achieve.

2. Talk with Someone you Trust

Talk with Someone you Trust

We all need a person that we can confide in to get our thoughts and feelings out in the world. Keeping them in does nothing for yourself and will only make things more difficult during this time. This will help you find motivation on bouncing back from a difficult time. Whether it is your best friend, your mom, your dad, coach, whoever, let them be there to listen and to give you advice on the matter potentially! You then can decide what you want to take from your interactions with your pal and apply it to your everyday life.

3. Nothing in Life is Easy

The reality that I encourage everyone to adopt early is nothing that you do in your life will come easy, and you’ll have to overcome obstacles to achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. It will be up to you to decide how bad you want to achieve your goals. If you can embrace the challenge and not let it consume every waking moment, you will feel like you can do anything you set your mind to. Remember that tough times never last, only tough people do!

If you ever feel down and feel like quitting, don't. Don’t make a decision you could look back on in a year or two and regret it. Remember to breath, talk with someone during difficult times, and to quickly grasp the idea of nothing in life will be easy can be tools to recover from this hard time and be better for the future because you’ve learned and grown as a player.
