Additional Information
After a career as a Professional footballer spanning 17 years going into the football / player development world seemed the natural progression for me and I have loved every minute of it.
Development of young footballers and future coaches is something that I have a real passion for and whilst I do have dreams of coaching/ managing at first team level I do truly feel with my character / personality and enthusiasm around working with younger players and coaches lends itself to being within the elite academy environment
My transition from professional football was one of patience, guidance, learning and enjoyment. I completed the relevant coaching qualifications and undertook both voluntary and paid positions to build my confidence, experience and skills.
Whilst also being asked to contribute to the odd piece of media work, I was fortunate to join the Norwich City Player Development Centre program which is ran by the clubs recognized charity The Community Sports Foundation.
In conjunction with this role, I worked as a Coach at Norwich City Academy on a part time basis as a foundation and youth development phase coach at their Category 1 academy. This is a key environment in which I feel very comfortable and somewhere with further opportunities, to help and support I can make a real difference to the players of tomorrow. This part time role progressed to a fulltime role after I was accepted on The Premier Leagues Elite Coaches Apprenticeship Scheme, and I then progressed to Foundation Phase Lead coach within 18 months.
Within these roles and being Lead coach of so many players has meant I had to be very meticulous with my management of time whilst also being incredibly organised in order to make this programme a success and not being afraid to deal with any situations that may arise in a professional yet assertive manner whilst also being very approachable and having a sympathetic and understanding ear when needed.
Within my role as Foundation Phase Lead Coach, I was given full control of the day to day running of the Norwich City Academy U9 to U12 age groups and I believe I shaped an environment to allow all players to thrive and succeed but most of all to enjoy the start of their footballing journey. Along with shaping the environment for my players and staff I was responsible for the running and creating a challenging and enjoyable coaching programme for each age group that gives all players the variety and opportunity to thrive and develop in line with the clubs DNA. Not only did I really enjoyed seeing these players grow under my leadership, but I have enjoyed seeing my 6 part time staff members grow and develop all aspects of their coaching and developing. I do also feel that having worked with four different academy managers I have a god understanding of exactly what is needed to allow an academy to run smoothly and effectively.
After seven years at Norwich City, I moved on to Luton Town to become their Head of Coaching. This role allowed me to work closely with all coaches within the club to aid there learning and development as well as working closely with all players across all age groups from Foundation Phase to Professional Development Phase.
This role lasted for one season where I was promoted to the role of Lead Development Squad Coach (U21/U23).
This allowed me to be back on the grass everyday working with players and helping the club build a squad of young talented players that will hopefully be the players of Luton Towns future. The gap between the U18 team and the first team was becoming too great and thus the development squad was Introduced.
During the first lock down Luton Town made the decision to remove the current first team manager, off the back of this I was installed as first team coach and worked closely with the new first team manager as we navigated our way from bottom of the championship and ten points adrift at the restart of the season to gaining championship survival, this opportunity allowed me to work closely with the manager and players at Championship level.
I was also reinstalled as first team coach from August 2021 to Jan 2022.
I was offered the role of Sporting Director which I accepted and thus in turn left my role at Luton Town.
This role started in June 2024.
After a period of time within this role I was approached by the CEO and President and was offered the role of Head Coach, a role that I duly accepted.
On Thursday 17th October 2024 I was announced as Head Coach and Sporting Director of Texoma FC
In October 2025 after one year in USL League One the Texoma FC leadership/ Ownership group made the decision to move from USL League One to USL League Two
Elite Coaches Apprenticeship Scheme
I am now in a fortunate position to have been part of the Premier Leagues Elite Coaches Apprenticeship Scheme.
The establishment of the Elite Coach Apprenticeship Scheme (ECAS) came about as a result of consultation with Academy Coaches, Heads of Coaching, Academy Managers and Club Managers in the Premier League.
The development of the curriculum has been shaped by expert practitioners in the clubs supported by the Youth department in the Premier League and guided by a Curriculum Development Team which has also drawn upon expertise from other sports and from academia in developing this programme.
ECAS is a workforce development initiative which is driven by the Clubs and shaped to meet the individual development needs of the elite coach apprentices that are employed in the Club through the scheme.
ECAS is a unique initiative in English Football it will enable Clubs to identify coaches who have the potential to become leading elite coaches in the Academy System. ECAS will create individualised development programmes for each apprentice coach; the coach will then be supported by a coaching cell of mentoring support. ECAS seeks to build upon the personal and professional strengths that the apprentice brings to the scheme and supplement these skills with additional areas of expertise that will better equip the ECAS coach to become an elite youth coach in the academy system.
ECAS aims to take coaches employed in academy clubs on a development journey and significantly improve them as people and coaches through a programme of education, training and development.
ECAS aims to develop both coaching and personal/professional skills by creating a community of coaches who learn from each other, a range of elite sporting and nonsporting environments and a team of experienced mentors.
I graduated from the ECAS scheme in December 2017 with a Diploma of Higher Education. I have also had the opportunity to sit on the interview panel for The Premier League during their interview process for potential candidates for the Elite Coaches Apprenticeship Scheme to help with selection of future BAME ECAS Candidates.
ECAS has been an instrumental part of my life and the scheme has allowed me to not just develop as a coach, but it has also developed me as a person both at work and at home.
It truly transformed my life.
