Quincy
-
We’re out here learning how to play four-dimensional chess while everybody else is out here playing checkers. (6:14-6:20)
-
What I really was impressed with Griff, was his ability to not be closed off to the idea that he could be wrong, which is an extremely valuable skill and one that most people aren’t able to develop and understand because at this level it’s the subtle differences in mindset that determine long-term success. (11:45-12:10)
-
A huge advantage of being young versus being older is the older you get, the more experience you have and sometimes your experience hurts you because your experience doesn’t allow you to hear a message that could help you. (16:52 – 17:03)
-
Getting into somebody’s head is a matter of trapping them mentally in a game they can’t think their way out of. People typically get frustrated when they can’t figure something out. They can’t solve a problem and most people tend to get angry when they can’t solve a problem. (19:03 – 19:31)
-
If the troll makes you mad, who is in control? If the troll makes you laugh and smile, you control the troll. The longer the troll pays attention to. You, the more of their mental space, capacity, rent, and assets are being deposited into your name and bank account. (19:51 -20:22)
-
If there are no shortcuts, how can you speed up your process? You build a team. Your network is your net worth and the way you build your team is how you will stand the test of time. When times get rough, and that’s the nature of not only professional sports but life, you will have the support system that you’re needing to get through anything. (22:24 -23:04)
Griffin
- Playing in a professional environment with professional layers, that makes the world of difference. (31:26 -31:32)
- A huge part of soccer, like you always say, is the mindset. And confidence is massive. We’ve talked about it many times, having confidence. You know in trainings, also in games, it can make the world of difference. (31:39 – 31:54)
- You cannot have the little things affect you, that’s it. It’s all about the big picture. You know just one bad touch, you wake up next one’s gonna be a good one, next one’s going to be going… just building, building, building. And I think that’s what you really know going into the season, it’s less based off of end product and more based off of you knowing what I can do and what got me here. (33:10 -33:30)
- I just remember there was something about me winning that they just… I don’t know if it was because I was young at the time, but you would talk the most crap to all of them and you would always win, and they wouldn’t get too mad, and when I would win, they wouldn’t say anything, but they would be pissed, they would be so pissed. I later on realized that it was just like, they did not want me being a 16-year-old to win. (41:49 – 42:15)
-
People have this misconception that you know, everyday being a professional is just like, so great. Just loads of money and you’re just going in for three hours practice and you go home and you’re free. No, no, it’s nothing like that. You really have to ask yourself, is this what I want to do? You have to look at yourself in the mirror and go, is this for me, do I want to go back tomorrow? (48:33 – 49:02)
