What to Wear for Soccer

Soccer might be one of the most popular sports in the world, but it’s not surprising that many people don’t know exactly what they’re supposed to wear on the field. That’s because, in most cases, it’s more than just picking up a ball and going to the field. You have to get the right gear so you are both comfortable and prevent injuries while playing soccer.

Below you will find all of the information that you will need to dress correctly for both recreational and league soccer.

What to Wear for Recreational Soccer

Even though you could wear just about anything to play recreational soccer, it’s better to take a little bit of time to make sure that you are in the best gear possible. You want to be able to move around comfortably, and you also want to do everything that you can to lower the chances of incurring an injury.

What to Wear for Recreational Soccer

The first thing you need to do is know what the temperature is like outside. You don’t want to go out in a t-shirt and shorts only to realize that it is way too cold for those clothes. However, if it is only slightly cold outside, you don’t have to dress in very warm clothing, as you will be moving around quite a bit on the soccer field.

Shin guards are optional when playing recreationally, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to wear them. Not only do they protect your legs, you also will be able to get used to playing with them on so you are prepared for league games.

You don’t have to be too picky when choosing a pair of shoes to wear, but they should be comfortable and intact. If you are playing on a dirty or muddy field, it would be a good idea to pick out some cleats to wear to prevent injuries.

What to Wear for League Soccer

Obviously you are going to have to stick with more strict attire for league play since you are going to be wearing a uniform rather than just “soccer clothes.” However, outside of the jersey (and sometimes the shorts, too), you do have some choices to make. While you do have some freedom here, you should make sure to read over your league’s rules so you know what you can and can’t buy.

What to Wear for League Soccer

In most cases, your team will provide you with shin guards, but sometimes you will need to buy your own. Regardless, make sure that you wear a pair of socks underneath the shin guards, and then put your soccer socks on top of the guards. This will protect your shins from getting burned by the guards while you’re moving around.

If you have long hair, find a way to either tie it up or use a hair band to pull it back. This will guarantee that you can see the ball throughout the game while also keeping your hair out of other players’ faces.

Optionally, you can get a mouth guard to protect your teeth. You should definitely get on if you are currently wearing braces, but even people who don’t have them might want to get a guard just in case they are hit in the face during a game.

Last but obviously not least, you should wear your team’s uniform. They will usually provide you with shorts along with your jersey, but you might need to pick up your own. Just make sure that they are comfortable and are the right color for your team.
