Black Players Coalition of MLS

Thank you for your interest in finding out more information about the Black Players Coalition. Today’s announcement is the culmination of tireless work from the black player pool over these past few weeks. We are here to make measurable changes not only in Major League Soccer but also in our communities.

The amount of progress we have made in such a short period of time is both remarkable and encouraging, but just the first step in a long process.

In addition to solidifying the black player pool, we’ve already established an open line of communication with the MLSPA and Major League Soccer to execute on initiatives to solve the racial inequities we’ve personally experienced within the league. As we’ve mentioned, our initiatives are aimed at, but not limited to; diversification hiring practices, league-wide cultural education courses, and deeper development of the game in black communities.

We are also committed to addressing systemic barriers in educational opportunity and political engagement, among other fields, in partnerships with local and national nonprofits. Additionally, we’ve secured $75,000 in charitable contributions in partnership with the MLS Players Association on behalf of the Coalition to date. This and additional funding is crucial to our initiatives as we help direct funds where they will be most impactful.

With your long term commitment to amplifying black players' voices, working in black communities, and committing to a lifestyle change of purchasing from black-owned businesses, together we have a chance to accomplish our goals of bridging this racial gap.

As an organization, our first step in leadership and commitment to amplifying black players' voices is through announcing our organization on the black-owned soccer news outlet, Perfect Soccer.

With all organizations that are just starting up, things have come together quickly. We didn’t want to delay the announcement of our organization due to the lack of a website. In prioritizing getting our authentic message out to the public we felt strongly about it being on a platform of one of our own members.

This website will serve as the BPC’s temporary home for updates but we want to reiterate that Perfect Soccer and the BPC are separate entities. We look forward to establishing our own website and channels to get you direct updates on the important work that our organization will be carrying out now and well into the future. Thank you again for your support as we embark on this journey.
